  Mission Outline

Within the past week, several attacks against NSL installations and troops have been conducted. As of now, the enemy forces responsible have not been identified.

To gather intelligence of these enemy forces, a lot more patrols than usual have been sent out. Sweep your assigned AO.

  Primary Objective   Secondary Objective

Follow the trail and leave your AO at either point A or point B. It is more important to report information about the unknown enemy than to fight him.

The NSL player writes the exit point he is heading for on a piece of paper in secret. The enemy has to guess which point the platoon is heading for.

In case a fight is unavoidable, inflict more casualties on the enemy force than you sustain.

  Mission Outline

You have been inserted in NSL territory a week ago and conducted guerilla operations on behalf of your employer against NSL installations and troops.

The NSL are now patrolling in force to find you. One Jäger platoon heads toward your current camp, and you quickly prepare an ambush while your scarce supplies are brought to another location.

  Primary Objective   Secondary Objective

Prevent the NSL from exiting either via point A or B, and inflict as much casualties on them as possible. Achievig this you kill two birds with one stone, your supplies are saved and your contract is fulfilled.

The FFL player deploys hidden and receives d6 dummy counters.

As you cannot be reinforced, it is important to inflict more casualties than you receive.

Execution

mediaobject

Red arrows indicate the placement of FFL counters (units and dummies). The white arrows indicate the two possible exit points for the NSL.

mediaobject

The first NSL squad enters the board. One trooper thinks he notices movement on the hill to their left, but looking intensly at the hill does not reveal anything unusual.

mediaobject

The second and command squad follow on the trail in their usual patrol formation.

mediaobject

The nervous trooper from the first squad again thinks he noticed something on the squads right flank this time, but again nothing can be found.

mediaobject

When first squad is only a few meters short of the intersection, they are fired on from behind...

mediaobject

...and nearly simultaneoulsy to their front more enemy troops appear! The troopers drop prone, with bullets whizzing all around them, but two of them will never rise again.

mediaobject

Second squad reacts immediately, and runs around the hill to their right to flank the ambushers that just badly mauled their Kameraden from behind.

mediaobject

The FFL squad's Sergent to the front of NSL squad one is really gung-ho and decides the time is right to finish off the supressed enemies with a classic final charge. He orders hes men forward to close assault enemy. This seems very easy, with Richard only having to roll above his squads LV of 1 on a d8, but of course he promptly rolls a 1... after several steps the Sergent notices that nobody is following him. The FFL troops ignore their order and instead fire on the NSL squad.

mediaobject

Things look really bad now, with three dead and one wounded only two troopers are still able to fight.

mediaobject

The squad gains another suppression, and finally the two surviving troopers start to loose their confidence.

mediaobject

A third squad of FFL troops reveals itself from its hidden position by opening fire on the battered down NSL lead squad.

mediaobject

Now only one trooper still lives and, understandably, his confidence breaks. If his head was not forced down by the torrent of bullets, he would already be running for it.

mediaobject

The NSL command squad moves into position to cover the hard-pressed first squad, and entrenches as good as possible. Third squad advances on the left of the command squad.

mediaobject

The last squad of the FFL emerges from their hiding place, and moves to counter the flanking manoeuvre of the NSL 2ns squad.

mediaobject

They take cover in the shrubbery creeping up on the crashed plane.

mediaobject

The FFL finally kill the last active member of the 1st NSL squad, only one wounded remains alive, but is unable act.

mediaobject

FFL squad 2, the one who initiated the ambush by shooting at the first NSL squad from behind, seizes the initiative and moves through the wood they are taking cover in, to engage the NSL quad that tried to flank them. In their first volley they kill half of the enemy squad.

mediaobject

While the FFL advances, the NSL commander calls for supporting fire by the compay rocket assisted mortars (plain red markers, 1 real, 2 dummies).

mediaobject

On the right NSL flank, the 2nd squad cannot recover from the attack against it, and is further whittled down by enemy fire.

mediaobject

Finally, the first casualty is caused by the NSL troops, who wound one FFL by fire from 3rd squad. The FFL retreats behind the hill.

mediaobject

Hearing mortar rounds whistling in, another FFL squad runs for cover.

mediaobject

The last members of 2nd squad are cut down by FFL fire.

mediaobject

When the mortar fire arrives, it shows that the NSL Leutnant needs some more training at calling for supporting fire, as the first incoming round deviates from its intended point of impact.

mediaobject

The other two rounds of the salvo scatter around the first impact point...

mediaobject

...and their only casualty is the last member of first squad!

Debriefing

With more than half of his platoon annihilated, the NSL Leutnant orders a quick retreat, hoping that having identified the enemy at last spares him to be chewed down by his Hauptmann for loosing so many men in return for no enemy body count...
