[Khador Turn 1]

Zevanna allocated 1 Focus to each of her 'jacks, which all ran forward. Both Winterguard Units ran along one flank as far as they were able to. The Old Witch followed behing the two heavies and cast through Scrappy's Arc Node ‹ Weald Secrets › on the left Winter Guard Unit. Scrappy received ‹ Avatar of Slaughter › .

[Circle Turn 1]

Kaya cast ‹ Forced Evolution › on the Feral. ‹ Shadow Pack › was cast for the benefit of all her battlegroup. The Feral warped ‹ Speed › , ran and was riled for two. The Pureblood warped ‹ Spell Ward › , ran and was riled for one Fury. Laris and the Wold Wyrd also sped towards the Khadorans and got riled for one each. The War Wolf and the Reeve Hunter ran towards the Khadoran objective marker, trailed to their right by the Woldstalkers.

[Khador Turn 2]

Zevanna dropped ‹ Weald Secrets › and upkept ‹ Avatar of Slaughter › for free. The Devastator received one Focus, the Behemoth 3 on his secondary cortex. The Old With kept 3 for herself.

The Winterguard Unit on the left flank ran around the buildings, three of their number moving to block the Circle advance on their objective. The Winterguard Unit on the other flank advanced slowly towards their own objectice. The man on point was in range of the War Wolf and casually shot him between the eyes, dropping the beast dead in its tracks.

The Devastator ran towards the Warp Wolves, the Behemoth moved toward the Circle's right flank. He then opened fire with his bombards. First, he targeted the Reeve Hunter with a boosted hit and boosted damage roll.

[Khador Turn 2]

After the smoke and debris thrown up by the explosion cleared, the Reeve Hunter was nowhere to be seen, he obviously followed the War Wolf into Urcaen. The Woldstalker catched in the explosion escaped unharmed.

[Khador Turn 2]

The second bombard was trained on a Woldstalker but missed (boosted vs 9...) and deviated behind him, engulfing the Druid and a Stalker in the explosion. The Stalker was shattered into 1,000 tiny shards of stone.

[Khador Turn 2]

Zevanna moved up behind the heavies. She placed ‹ Murder of Crows › (the Deviation Template in the above picture) to block the Woldstalkers advance and feated to save her battlegroup from charges and power attacks.

[Circle Turn 2]

At this point Bernd shattered my whole battleplan by suggesting that the Feat was useless, when a charge or power attack was started outsides Zevanna's control area but brought the attacking model into it. This never occured to me. We searched the Privateer Press Forums and Bernd's assumption was confirmed (the model would of course still get the automatic hit, but it would not be prevented from charging, slamming, etc.). He allowed me to undo the Feating and keep it for later uses - which did not help my vulnerabilty... but thank you anyway :-)

After that was sorted out Kaya leached all Fury from her 'beasts and let go of all her upkeep spells.

The Feral warped ‹ Protective Plates › and slammed the Devastator backwards. The Khador heavy did not receive any damage although Bernd rolled four damage dice, but the Behemoth was Knocked Down as well (without any damage) and two Mechaniks were squished under the toppling Devastator.

[Circle Turn 2]

The Knocked Down Warjacks opened LOS for the Wold Wyrd, who moved unharmed through the whirling mass of crows and zapped the Old Witch. A fully boosted attack caused 10 points of damage on the poor wretch. His additional attack missed though.

The Woldstalkers joined in the shooting, first moving forward, then being placed forward by ‹ Zephyr › . One of their numbers succumbed to the beaks of the crows, the others shrugged of the crow attacks but all missed the Old Witch.

The Pureblood was placed forward by the Shifting Stones and ‹ Death Howled › at Zevanna. He missed with his boosted attack roll.

mediaobject

[Circle Turn 2]

Laris ran forward, Kaya moved forward and used ‹ Spirit Shift › to place herself beside him in melee range with the Old Witch. With both boosted attack and damage roll she exactly caused the damage Zevanna had left in health points...

[Overview - End of Battle]

Debriefing

  • Bernd (Circle)

When I saw the amount of troops together with the high armoured Khadoran Warjacks on the other side of the table I was a little bit concerned. My initial plan was to try to grab my flag as fast as possible with my Feral and the Pureblood while my fast models were supposed to run forward to contest Matthias' Control Zone.

But when my second turn came I was not sure if I was able to achieve my goals that turn. On the other hand, I saw the option to go for an assassination run and I was pretty confident that I had enough attacks over all to take the old witch down.

But in the end the only reason for the old witch standing in the open was Matthias' misinterpretation of her feat. Next time it will be a lot harder to take her down.

The scenario itself is pretty interesting and I have no clue how to deploy my forces for the most benefit. But that’s a good sign because it means that I have a lot of room to improve. :D

  • Matthias (Khador)

Another game lost to Circle... and one I could have prevented (for some turns at least) had I given more thought about how the Old Witch's Feat worked... The way I thought it worked, nothing would have happened to her or the 'jacks, but as it was...

At least I have another piece of evidence in my ongoing discussion with Bernd, where I try to proof to him that the War Wolf is utterly useless - killed by one single Winterguard this time... ;-)

The one turn of shooting by the Behemoth was quite nice (as you should expect for 13 points), I am definitely looking forward to more games with him.
